Financing innovations in value chains: Understanding challenges and potential
This webinar, hosted by the CGIAR Initiative on Rethinking Food Markets, explored the provision of finance to value chain actors from three different perspectives.
First, agricultural value chain finance in Vietnam and Indonesia was discussed, where research on stimulating credit demand among farmers through value chain finance had been carried out in collaboration with financial partners, cooperatives, and agribusinesses. Second, three projects that were being implemented in Bangladesh, Nigeria, and Uganda, and how the financial products marketed to farmers sought to overcome challenges discovered in other contexts were discussed. Finally, a study in Uganda and Bangladesh that focused on the financial needs of midstream actors was presented, addressing how understanding the midstream could be an alternative entry point for finance in value chains.
